STEP 1

Know your prescription

vima-b

O.D and O.S. - Indicates which eye

Oculus Dexter (O.D.) = Right Eye

Oculus Sinister (O.S.) = Left Eye

Sphere (SPH)

Refers to Strength of Lens Needed

(-) Nearsighted (Myopic)

(+) Farsighted (Hyperopic)

Cylinder (CYL)

Refers to lens power needed to correct Astigmatism

AXIS

Indicates where to place the lens correction (Cyl) for astigmatism.

Values range from 0° to 180°

ADD

This is the added magnifying power applied to correct presbyopia. The number appearing in this section of the prescription is always a "plus" power, even if it is not preceded by a plus sign. Generally, it will range from +0.75 to +3.00 D and will be the same power for both eyes.

Pupillary Distance (PD)

Used to centre lenses over Eyes.

Monocular PD: From nose to middle of eye.

Binocular PD: From middle of one eye to the other.

STEP 2

Pupillary Distance or PD & Fitting Height

vima-a

What is PD?
PD stands for pupil distance; this is the measurement between your eyes from pupil to pupil and is essential for each and every prescription.
Pupil distance can be expressed in two ways:
Binocular PD for far vision is the total distance between your pupils. Monocular PD is the distance from the bridge of your nose to your pupil on each side. A monocular PD measurement will be two numbers. The distance between the pupil centres is measured with a PD meter or a PD ruler, with the head in a normal position and the eyes looking straight ahead. It is best advised to be measured separately for right and left eye.
Binocular PD for near vision is expressed as above but measured with both eyes looking at point distance approximately at 35 to 40cm.

Don't have a PD measurement? Contact your optometrist or your eye doctor to ask for the data or better visit us in order to take full facial measurements for a precise manufacturing result.

What is Fitting Height?
The fitting height is the distance from the centre of the pupil (looking straight ahead), to the lowest part of the frame. The fitting height is measured with a ruler, separately for right and left eye. It is a measurement that you are advised to include especially in ametropies higher than +/-4,00 dioptres.

STEP 3

Find your frame size

vima-c

Wondering what size glasses to buy? If you currently wear glasses, you can easily find your frame size by learning the meaning of the numbers that appear on your frames - eye size, bridge, and temple length.

Every pair of glasses is a little different, so the size information may not always be located in the same place. Look on the inside of your current frame like this example:

What to look for:
There can be quite a few different kinds of numbers and markings inside your frame, and not all of them are relevant to the size.
The eye size and bridge size are often located next to one another, sometimes separated by a square box icon. The temple size may immediately follow those two sets of numbers.

You are looking for (2) two-digit numbers and one three-digit number:

  • Eye Size: a two-digit number in the 40 - 62 range
  • Bridge Size: a two-digit number in the 14 - 24 range
  • Temple length: a three-digit number in the 120 - 150 range

STEP 4

Lens Type

1.57 organic lenses are a valuable and economical choice, and recommended for people with light prescriptions up to +/-2,00 dioptres

High Index 1.60 & 1.67 lenses are much lighter than conventional organic lenses and recommended for people with medium prescriptions up to +/-6.00 dioptres

High Index 1.74 is the thinnest and lightest lens material which is recommended for people with high prescriptions with powers above +/-6.00 dioptres

note:  You have to be sure that all the parameters you give (prescription, lens type, PDs, etc.) are correct as the lens warranty and the offer of free shipping does not apply to incorrect given data. Prescription glasses are available upon order thus according to terms require prepayment and are non-refundable.
